Bow Your Knees

December 11, 2021 • Luke 2:8–18, Matthew 2:11, Luke 2:34–38

We don’t often talk about bowing our knees before Jesus. Kneeling before God is an act of surrender and worship. Throughout the Bible, we see examples of true worship. Especially in the birth of Jesus. Everyone who was invited to know baby Jesus praised and worshiped him as a King. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:8-9

Worship is more than just singing a song or two on Sunday morning (or Saturday night a Freedom House). It is an attitude of praise that should be part of everyday life. Isaiah 61:1-4 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
