Commandment #10: Do Not Covet

In the final sermon in this series, we look at the 10th commandment. God commands us “do not covet” because He loves us, and He is offering us protection. Coveting destroys individuals, friendships, marriages, churches, and nations.

Commandment #9: Do Not Lie

In the 9th commandment, the Bible tells us not to bear false witness against our neighbor. When we tell the truth, we reveal the true nature of God to others.

Commandment #8: Do Not Steal

In the eighth commandment, God instructs us to manage what we’ve been given with wisdom, work hard, generous sharing, and to hold our material possessions loosely.

Commandment #7: Do Not Commit Adultery

In the seventh commandment, God tells us not to commit adultery. Although we’ll never have perfect marriages because we’re sinful people, we can experience God’s best when we follow His perfect design.

Commandment #6: Do Not Murder

In the sixth commandment, God tells us not to murder. Why does God give us this universal command? Because all human beings are made in His image and are of immense value to Him.

Commandment #5: Honor Your Father and Mother

We see a shift in the fifth commandment to our interpersonal relationships. When we give honor to our biological and spiritual families, we give honor to the name of the Lord.

Commandment #4: Sabbath

In the fourth commandment, God tells us to keep the Sabbath Holy. Sabbath means taking intentional time of rest in God to reconnect with Him. This is an incredible eternal gift from God to find true rest for our souls.

In the third commandment, God tells us not to take the Lord’s name in vain. God takes carrying His name very seriously. We are to carry the glorious and majestic character and reputation of the LORD everywhere we go, in everything we do.

In the second commandment, God forbids us to make idols. God doesn’t want anyone to worship Him incorrectly. He takes it very seriously because He wants to be truly known and loved.
