Unified in Christ

Unified in Christ

Many of us have beloved prayers which we have memorized, like the Lord’s Prayer, a childhood bedtime prayer, the Serenity prayer, or the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi. How comforting it is to know that these prayers have been prayed across generations and continue to connect us with God. The Psalm for this week is one of those prayers.                Psalm 133 is a prayer that was used by the Jews as a recited prayer as they made their way to Jerusalem for holy festivals. This is Psalm of Ascent, which was prayed by pilgrims, recited as a holy prayer. It reminded them of the blessings of being united people of God and helped them unite as they prayed the words together on the journey to the Temple.                This week as you prepare for worship, I invite you to pray this ancient prayer. May it focus you for worship and remind you of the blessings of being united in Christ. Psalm 133 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when we live together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down upon the beard, upon the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life for evermore.
