What Does Jesus Want You to Do? - Traditional

August 27, 2023 • Rev. Wayne Lewis • Matthew 7:9–12

Father God, we praise your holy name. We thank you for your son Jesus Christ, for His sacrifices for all humanity. Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to care for us and assist us in serving you and your creation. Dear Father heap your love on us and bless us in knowing ourselves and treating all others as we desire to be treated. Amen.   *I do not own rights to any music. CCLI No. 692352, CSPL No. 114593*

John Wesley’s Circumcision of the Heart - Modern

August 20, 2023 • Shan Sixbey • Romans 2:17–29

God, we turn towards you with hurting hearts. We have failed to accept what you have offered: justification by grace and saving by faith. It is too simple a formula. We think it needs to be complicated, with steps we check off as we go, and a great revelation at the end. Rather, you are the sacrifice and the great redemption. Our job is to turn to you. As the great physician you circumcise our hearts and ask us to live a life of humility, faith, hope, and charity. Ah, there is the rub – we struggle with faith, hope, and charity. We say we have faith, but constantly live in fear and despair. We doom-scroll through news feeds that feed us catastrophe, tragedy, and anger. We engage in creating divides of us and them based on whatever differences we can find. Lord, circumcise our hearts and remind us the paths of your righteousness: what you ask of us is faith, hope, and charity. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Light in the Darkness - Modern

August 13, 2023 • Rev. Brian Sixbey • John 1:1–14

Jesus, you became as we are so that we could become as you are. You became human so that our humanity could be redeemed. Unfortunately, we too often grieve your Holy Spirit and ignore the goodness you offer. Help us adjust ourselves to your teaching and your light so that we can continue the work you began – to bring hope, light, and redemption to all of creation, for we pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.   *I do not own rights to any music. CCLI No. 692352, CSPL No. 114593*

Jesus is Light! - Modern

July 30, 2023 • Rev. Brian Sixbey • John 9:1–7

Jesus, you are the light of the world. You bring us insight, understanding, forgiveness, love, and your Holy Spirit. Wherever we go, and whatever we do, you go before us to prepare the way, you come with us to show us the way, and you follow after us to guide us to what is coming. Help us walk with you, turning to you frequently, so we can be light for others who have no light. This we ask in Jesus’ name, Amen. CCLI No. 692352, CSPL No. 114593

Shining Light - Modern

July 23, 2023 • Rev. Brian Sixbey • Isaiah 42:5–10, Matthew 5:14–16

Jesus, you said your yoke was easy and your burden light. You meant that you would help us carry that burden, not that we can toss out the parts we think will be heavy. You are the light of the world, not just our light. You want all people to be saved, not just the people who are like us. You give us power and light to reach out to the ends of the earth, not just inside our own circles. You are holy, and You created us to be holy as well. Forgive us when we limit Your grace and power because we are afraid of growing into the full measure of the stature of Christ. Amen.

Light Within - Modern

July 16, 2023 • Rev. Brian Sixbey • Psalm 4

We should know better, but we still look for quick fixes, as if a pill, a program, a surgery, a single donation of time or effort could solve everything. We are like the people in the Psalm who say, “Oh that we could see some good! Let the light of your face shine on us!” But true faith lies in knowing that God has “put more gladness in my heart than when grain and wine abounds.” Help us Lord, to continually, persistently, and devotedly seek your will in all of our lives so that your light can shine through us, even as your light shines within us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
