Jonah’s Dilemma

Loving Your Enemies

The Obedient Worm - Modern

February 5, 2023 • Rev. Brian Sixbey • Jonah 4

A bush grows up overnight, giving shade for Jonah, Then God sends a worm to eat the bush. Jonah was angry about the worm, But unrepentant about his own stubbornness. May we learn from the worm, God’s ways are above our ways, And His will is always for the best!!

The Obedient City - Modern

January 29, 2023 • Rev. Brian Sixbey • Jonah 3

Lord, we confess our hardness of heart. When we could reach out, we often lash out. When we could cross a bridge, we often burn it. When we could speak out to help someone, we often keep silence. Help us to have hearts that mourn when your heart mourns and rejoice when you rejoice. Help us be witnesses of your transforming love, in Jesus’ name. Amen

The Obedient Sailors - Modern

January 22, 2023 • Rev. Brian Sixbey • Jonah 1:1–7

Jonah, the mighty prophet, became like a rebellious toddler when the Lord told him to bring God’s word to Nineveh. The sailors, the people of Nineveh, and even the bush that lived only a day, were all more faithful than the mighty prophet of God. We confess that we are probably no different than Jonah – mightily blessed and mightily rebellious when called on to use our blessings to help people we disagree with. Turn our hearts of stone into clay so that they can be remolded in Jesus’ name. Amen
