Summer Women's Bible Study

August 5, 2020

Sometimes open doors are not fun. Sometimes they’re not even safe. Always they’re about something greater than our own benefit. Often they lead to Nineveh. Nineveh is the place God calls you where you do not want to go. Nineveh is trouble. Nineveh is danger. Nineveh is fear. What do you do when God says to you, “Go to Nineveh; go to the place you do not want to go”? Because God will say that to you. (All the Places to Go, Chapter 8)

I don’t know why some prayers get yeses and some get nos. I know the anguish of a no when you want a yes more than anything in the world. But I don’t know why. I only know that in the Cross God’s no to his only Son was turned into God’s yes to every human being who ever lived…Doors close because God has plans I don’t know. (All the Places to Go, Chapter 9)

All the places to go…how will you know?

I am not in charge of which doors will be presented to me through my life. I may not be able to force a closed door to open. I am not in charge of what’s behind the door. But I am in charge of one dynamic: when a door is opened, I get to choose how I will respond. Sometimes it’s what you do after the door opens that makes all the difference. (All the Places to Go, Chapter 6)
