Imagine two pregnant women meet and the moment they meet one of their babies leaps for joy in the woman’s womb. This is what happened to Elizabeth when she encountered Mary who was pregnant with the baby Jesus. They were both pregnant with expectation! They were both experiencing joy at what this encounter meant for each of them and the children they would bear. Even before his birth John recognized the Messiah lay in the womb of a young woman named Mary. Advent is a time for joyful recognition that Jesus is the Messiah.
