Broken Signposts

Power

May 1, 2022 • Nathan Logsdon • John 19:1–16, John 18:33–36

The broken signpost of power we follow is one riddled with corruption, war, abuse, slander and hate. Worldly kingdoms wield worldly power, while Jesus displayed God-given power to build an eternal kingdom. Do I look to Jesus to be a light to shine in the midst of my unbelief? Do I seek darkness to hide in guilt and shame? Do I look to Jesus for the victory he's already won for me?

Justice

March 20, 2022 • Kevin Brimner • John 8:2–11

On your worst day or most recent day of sin, Jesus’ first thought is not your condemnation. The true story of Jesus’ death on the cross is the story of the God who wants to stand between you and your condemnation. Justice is a signpost, an indicator that we’re broken and need Jesus.

Love

March 27, 2022 • Kevin Brimner • John 13:1–17

The challenge of love is that we apply it to everything-pizza, outfits and Saturdays. The effect of having many ways of looking at love leaves us disoriented. Jesus demonstrated his love to the disciples when he took on the role of a servant and washed their feet. Love ransoms, never subdues. My knowing does not remove the responsibility of my doing.

Spirituality

April 3, 2022 • Nathan Logsdon • John 15:1–17

No purpose in life can be disconnected from the cross. My life disconnected from Jesus is actually death. My life connected to others is consequential. My life is sustained by the overwhelming proximity of Jesus.

Freedom

April 10, 2022 • Nathan Logsdon • John 8:31–36

Freedom is an illusion that slips further away the harder I desire it. Sin is an act or a thought that goes outside of God’s created and perfect intentions. Sin offers me an ounce of what I want and a lot of what I don’t. God wants me to be free and provides a path for new life.

Beauty

April 17, 2022 • Nathan Logsdon • John 20:1–18, John 11:1–37

Beauty overflows through everything created by God. Sin distorts beauty to the point of death. Jesus restores creation, defeating sin and death. Jesus’ greatest motivator is for God’s glory to be known.

Truth

April 24, 2022 • Nathan Logsdon • John 18:20–38, John 14:5–14

For one statement to be true, others must be false. When I bristle against truth it is the accountability that makes me wince. My sinful nature leans towards sin and I need Jesus to be my truth. If I believe Jesus is not the only way then I must reject the Gospel altogether.
