I Am Persistently Deciding to Follow Jesus

Have you ever memorized and studied a Bible verse only to later find out that it means so much more than you ever thought? I am glad to say that the depth of the Bible never ceases to amaze and humble me. This week as we study one of the most significant passages in my life, we will find that it challenges us to “follow Jesus” and to “keep following Jesus.” I pray that we are all challenged this week as we to keep on deciding to follow Jesus…and we do!

The Incomprehensible Awesomeness of God

For 2 or 3 months we have been discussing the awesome work of God to bring us to salvation; first to the Jews, then to the Gentiles. In Him though, we are all the same – born again believers by the grace of Jesus Christ! Today we finish the massively theological section concerning Israel with a concluding statement of God’s work to save us all and of His awesome and incomprehensible nature. He is better than we can imagine. He is more worthy than we can express. All Hail the King! He is Worthy!

The Probability of Impossibility

We sometimes use the word “impossible” to describe the improbable. It is “impossible” to make that shot! We know how it is. But we also know how the seemingly impossible happens occasionally. The 24-year-old who suddenly is going to be a big brother…The car that has been on empty since yesterday made it to the gas station! The husband who won an argument with his wife! Wow! Today we will find out that God does the impossible and makes it probable. Thank God – He is stronger than the impossible is difficult!

Let's Examine the Evidence

Have you ever made an accusation against someone that seemed too far-fetched to believe? Has anyone ever made one about you? There is little that makes one more upset than being unfairly accused. Truthfully, most of us don’t like it even if we deserve it! How about God? Did God abandon Israel as some say? Could it be that the point of these 3 chapters in Romans all comes together to bring us a conclusion – and that conclusion is uncomfortable for those who have failed to take responsibility for their actions? Paul lays out the evidence in our passage today…has God rejected Israel? Let’s see.

2 Sides of the Same Coin

The gospel is the power of God to save. Chapter 8 told us that God has been working in history to bring us to salvation based upon His plan and nothing we have done. Last week we learned that those who call on the Name of the Lord shall be saved. Using Israel as the example, Paul is going to show us that there are two sides to salvation, neither one of them diminish its value or the sovereignty of God. We may focus on the “heads” of our coins more – but the coin is complete when it has two sides. Today we see how that works in salvation without minimizing God’s grace and Christ’s sufficiency.

Trust in the Lord

For the last several weeks we have seen God’s sovereignty in bringing forth the Savior and brining salvation to the world. Today we see that His amazing provision in salvation must be met with our openness to His Lordship in belief. How do you respond to Jesus? In belief? In doubt? With excitement or indifference? Today we will see that we must trust in Him for our salvation. This is the day to clearly respond to Jesus in faith. Let’s Trust in the Lord!

Rightly Pursue Righteousness - Part 2

For a couple of weeks now we have been talking about our security in the work of God. This week we continue that thought and take it even further! God is faithful and He brought salvation to the world through His amazing work and only His work. How we respond to Him then, and seek Him, is extremely important. God saves! Don’t forget…God Saves! In Him we can trust!
