Love and Lordship

For weeks we have seen that Love comes from God and that Christians must live in love. Now, as chapter 13 ends, we see a notable change in tone. Did Paul lose it? Did he decide to go all legalistic on us? Does it all tie together? Jesus loves us but that doesn’t mean that God is less holy or that He isn’t coming back. As He does—let’s get ready in love and under His Lordship.

Connecting to the Almighty

War…Hurricanes…Family Issues…Elections…All of those things give me reason to pause, perhaps even to sigh. God however gives me reason to hope. He gives me strength to carry on, to live my faith, and to allow Him to do the best in each situation of life. Today we take a break from Romans to be reminded of where our ability to live faithfully comes from. Trust in the Lord, for HE is the Almighty and is very much upon His throne.

Give to Caesar Only What is Caesar's

How does the separation of church and state actually work in practical terms? We don’t believe the church should run the government nor do we believe the government should interfere with our worship. Does that mean that our faith never intersects with our civil duties? Does it mean that God has one standard for the government and another for the church? Does it mean that God doesn’t care what happens in the government because it isn’t the church? Romans 13 addresses the purpose of the government and our relationship to it FOR Him. We must give to Caesar only what belongs to him—for God alone is worthy of our worship.
