The Gifts Reserved for Age

The fifth commandment to honor your father and mother is coupled with a promise to live long in the land. The promise, like the commandments, is intended to signify what a life well-lived will produce. Honoring the elders and those in authority is an expression of gratitude to God and trust in his provision. A church and society that rejects their elders is a sign of disobedience, not enlightenment.
