The Reciprocity of Love

1 Thessalonians 3

April 22, 2018 • Kurt Pressler

We are in a series on the book of 1 Thessalonians, a letter written by the Apostle Paul to encourage and instruct a young church how to live faithfully and lovingly in light of Christ’s return. The message of the letter is not intended to create fear that we’re going to be busted for not doing what we should be doing when he returns, nor is it a warning that, should Jesus find us misbehaving when he comes back, we risk being left behind. It is a message, though, about how the certain hope of the future return of Jesus should motivate us to get moving being about the business of God.

Return of the King

I was driving around Richardson a couple of weeks ago and, when I came to a red light, I saw this guy holding a sign. “Repent, Repent. People get ready. Jesus is coming!” What do we think when we see someone holding up that type of sign? What do we do when we see a sign like that? Is there any merit to what he’s trying to say? We may be inclined to dismiss him or question his theology. But one thing we can’t escape is that what he says on his sign is true. Jesus is coming back, and we should be prepared.
