Chariots Of Fire

Signs

March 19, 2023 • Mike Waldrop

There are dark passages of doom and foreboding in the stories of Elijah and John the Baptist. They are the kinds of judgement statements that make us uncomfortable and we would prefer to skip over. But they are important to consider in our spiritual journey. Come join us and find out why!

The Chariot Of Fire

March 12, 2023 • Mike Waldrop • 2 Kings 2:1–18

Are the things we are investing our lives in worth doing? If they are, are they worth passing along for others to do, too? Join us as we consider the value of passing on to others what God has given us to do.

Old School

March 5, 2023 • Mike Waldrop • 1 Kings 1:51–53, 2 Kings 1:1–17

What directs our responses to life issues and cultural dilemmas? Are we more dependent on and accepting of culturally accepted sources of information than we are of God’s old-fashioned Word? Are we encouraged by the guidance on life and culture God has given us and do we respond accordingly?

The Usual Suspects

February 26, 2023 • Mike Waldrop • 1 Kings 21

For what misdeeds would your friends and family identify you as “the usual suspect?” And if you are the guilty one, what consequence for those misdeeds might you expect? And if, guilty though you might be, forgiveness is chosen; how does that strengthen your love and appreciation for the one who chose to love you rather than punish?

Up

February 19, 2023 • Mike Waldrop • 1 Kings 19:1–18

When life is tough to the point our thoughts are something like, “I’m done, I want out!”, how does God respond? Are we in trouble? Have we flunked out of Christianity? Or are we cared for in ways that restore and renew? Join us as we consider Elijah’s falling apart and what it tells us about God’s care.

Rainman

February 12, 2023 • Mike Waldrop • 1 Kings 18:41–46, James 5:17–18

Are ordinary people still used by God to do extraordinary things? The Bible says that Elijah, the one who did some wild miracles, was a man just like us whose prayers changed the weather. Maybe God has extraordinary things for each of us to do just like He did for Elijah. Come explore the possibilities with us.

The Longest Yard

February 5, 2023 • Mike Waldrop • 1 Kings 18:11–40

The longest yard is the last bit of overwhelming opposition that keeps you from your goal. Elijah walked the longest yard in the face of a noisy and frenzied opposition and through Elijah, God showed grace and power to His people. When life gets crazy and we lose sight of what is worthy of our trust and loyalty, God calls us back to Himself with grace. Join us as we consider this call.

The Shadow

January 29, 2023 • Mike Waldrop • 1 Kings 17:17–24, Psalm 91:1–4

In the face of loss and grief we sometimes want to question God, and sometimes we’ve been made to feel guilty by our emotional responses. But the Bible doesn’t condemn our responses or our questions. The Bible also doesn’t promise we’ll get all the answers we want, or even answers that will make our loss seem less terrible. But the Bible does promise us that our God is the God that makes what seems impossible to us become possible. You are invited to worship with us as we look at faith and loss.

A League Of Their Own

January 22, 2023 • Mike Waldrop • 1 Kings 17:7–16

A recent Barna study indicated that the majority of church people in the United States do not see life through Biblical filters. But sometimes in life we encounter people who seem to live in a League of Their Own. They view and see life differently. The story of Elijah is the story of a man who saw life differently, and who experienced amazing things as a result. Want to see a different perspective? Want to see God’s amazing things? Join us as we consider the invitation of Elijah to be prepared by God for a life that is not out of our league.

Chariots Of Fire: The Beginning

January 15, 2023 • Mike Waldrop • 1 Kings 17:1–6, James 5:17

“Almost everyone wants to be a hero to someone. And some want to be a hero to everyone. The Bible is full of stories of willing and unwilling heroes. They were men and women who did the right thing at the right time for the right reasons. Join us as we explore how God makes a hero this Sunday, and walk with us in becoming heroic.”
