Each day we are exposed to written communications from various genres. Each genre is distinct and requires applying certain principles of interpretation to understand the message the author is trying to communicate correctly. Join us this week as we explore the different genres of the Bible and discuss certain principles to help guard us against misunderstanding the truth the Biblical authors are communicating through the different genres of the Biblical text.

The Bible was written over a time span of 1500 years by more than 40 different authors. The final book of the Bible was penned during the first century AD, now over two millennia ago. How do we as Bible students bridge the cultural, geographical, historical, and political gap between Biblical times and the 21st century? This week we will be discussing four principles to help the Bible student maximize the value of becoming aware of these different contexts (cultural, geographical, historical, and political contexts) as well as discuss ways to avoid significantly misusing the information from each of these contexts.

God decided to communicate to us through words. Therefore it is critical that we understand the role of words in communication. We must remember that words can have different meanings and it is the Bible student's responsibility to determine what meaning is being used in certain contexts. This week we will discuss different techniques that will help us accurately determine the correct meaning of a word as we study the Biblical text.
