Ephesians 4:4-6

1. The Unity of the One Spirit (4:4)
"There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called..." Ephesians 4:4
"One body" refers to the church--the body of Christ. As believers, we are members of one body by virtue of the "one Spirit" dwelling within us. All who have the spirit have a common hope. The Holy Spirit is a guarantee that all believers will stand together in the presence of the Lord in the likeness of Christ. That is our "one hope."

2. The Unity of the One Lord (4:5)
"...one Lord, one faith, one baptism..." Ephesians 4:5
We receive salvation from "one Lord." Christ Jesus died and rose again. Salvation is found only is Him. This exclusivism is highlighted in our text with the declaration that there is only "one faith." The object of our "one faith" is our lone Lord. "One baptism" identifies a believer as belonging to Christ and His Church.

3. The Unity of the One God (4:6)
"...one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." Ephesians 4:6
God the Father is the creator of all and the goal of all of life. This verse reveals at least two truths about Creator God. First, we were created by God in the image of God for God's purpose. Second, because we are all creations of God, we should live in unity with one another. These truths should bind us closely one to another.
