W. Jean Shelton, 86 of Piperton, TN passed away on August 19, 2022.
Jean Shelton was born on Oct., 14, 1935 in Bagdad, FL, to the late Willie J. and Lillian Griffith Jones where she was one of five children.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ray Shelton; her brother, Raymond Jones; brothers-in-law, Tommy Welch and Don Mathis; and daughter-in-law, Beverly Shelton.
She is survived by three siblings, Jimmy Jones (Shirley) of Pensacola, FL, Glennis Welch of Pensacola, FL and Joyce Mathis of Cordova, TN; her children, Robert Shelton of Lakeland, TN, Greg Shelton (Brenda) of Bartlett, TN, Sean Shelton (Amanda) of Cordova, TN, Philip Shelton of Hernando, MS, and Darryl Shelton (Annette) of Columbus, MS; as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Jean went to Pensacola High School and studied music at Mississippi University for Women. Jean and Ray ran several successful businesses together (home and apartment building, laundromats, and bus leasing- Senator Rentals Inc.). She played the piano and sometimes sang for several gospel singing groups (The Gospel Sounds, The RayDon Singers, The Senators Quartet). She played the piano beautifully and taught piano for many years. For the last several years, she was the pianist on Wednesday nights at First Assembly Memphis, where she was a member for 21 years. She also taught several of her sons and granddaughters to play the piano. She loved to play cards with her friends every week.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Assembly of God in Memphis, TN or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
