Why are So Many So Stressed Out?

It's safe and at the same time sad to say that at some level, everyone is stressed out. The patterns and pressures of living in this world demand everything of us to exhausting lengths. But what if there's another better way? Is there a pattern of living that unburdens us from the weight of living out each day? Yes! Thankfully are we not only told about it, we are are also given guidance in Philippians 4. Rejoice persistently and pray continuously.


Philippians 4:4-9


4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.


For Adult Homes and Groups

1. Read Philippians 4:4-9.

2. Stress is part of living in this world. What are some things

that help bring relief to the stress you experience? Are these methods part of your normal routine? Share your stress solutions with one another.

3. Dealing with stress is not a one time event. It’s a life long struggle. Thankfully we are given a pattern for coping with stress through different commands in our reading. What are we told to do in these verses?

4. These commands are meant to draw focus away from our problems and instead look to Jesus, our Provider. This week, focus on one specific command and ask someone close to you to remind you to apply it each day. Think long term - how can it become a habit?


For Families with Kids

1. Read Philippians 4:4-9 and memorize verse 6.

2. When you worry, it’s best to have a way to feel better. The Bible says that God is the best way and He wants to help you. All you need do is go to Him.

3. Make a list of the things that worry or scare you. Pray about your list and ask Jesus to help you.

4. Anytime you have a problem, remember that Jesus will help you through it. As a family, take time this week to worship, pray, and read God’s Word. How can you make this a habit beyond this week?
