Have you ever been jealous of someone else because they seem to have it all together? Have you questioned why God made you the way He did and wondered how He can use you? If you have, you aren't alone. Join us this week in Romans 12 as we read how God has made each person different for a reason.
Romans 12:1-8
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
For Adult Homes & Groups
1. Read Romans 12:1-8. Describe a time you felt God using you to help people or serve His church.
2. What holds you back from using your gifts to serve in or outside the church?
3. How can you allow God to make His power perfect despite your weaknesses?
For Families with Kids
1. Read Romans 12:1-8 together.
2. The word “transformed” in Greek, the language Paul writes in, is metamorphoó. It’s where we get the word metamorphosis from, like when a caterpillar is transformed into a butterfly. Read 12:2 again. We are transformed by the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ of our _ _ _ _.
3. Before we know about Jesus our minds are filled with things of this world that aren’t always good for us. Through His Word, Jesus fills our minds with His promises and His goodness! God’s Word changes us for the better. What does 12:2 say we will know if we renew our minds with God’s Word?
4. Make a Bible reading chart for September. For each day that you read the Bible together as a family, put one dollar in a jar. When you meet the goal, use the money saved to buy a live butterfly garden kit together. Observe and wonder how the caterpillars go through metamorphosis and transform into butterflies!
