Taming the Tongue

James 4:1-12

September 20, 2020 • Ken Werlein

Have you ever said something that you wish you hadn't? Or have you have been on the receiving end of a biting or thoughtless comment? Do you remember how hurt you felt? Pastor Ken talks about how destructible the unbridled tongue can be and shows how we can diagnose the spiritual health of our tongue.

Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. (James 4:5-6)

When we allow ourselves to be influenced by the world, ultimately, our relationship with God will be severed. Pastor Ken teaches what matters the most – that relationship with God is, at the core, the answer to that age old question of what the point of it all is.

True and False Wisdom

October 18, 2020 • Dan Slagle

Do you sometimes find yourself treating God like Google Maps – you’ve already determined your destination but just need guidance on how to get there? Continuing our series "Making Faith Work", Pastor Dan teaches that to fear the Lord is to let Him determine the destination as well as the directions on exactly how to get there and that wisdom is found in only one place: in the hands of our loving Father. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)
