A Life Changing Sermon to an Unlikely Congregation

                                                                                             

 

Luke 2:8-18 (NIV)

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’”

 

Verse 13

“Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,”

 

Verse 14 

“Glory to God in the highest heaven,

    and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

 

Verse 15

“When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’”

 

Verse 16

“So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.”

 

Verse 17

When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,

 

Verse 18

and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

 

 

 

 

 

God’s message through the shepherds to you: 

 

1.     You don’t have to be afraid anymore. 

 

Luke 2:10 (NIV)

“the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.”

 

 

2.     God’s love for you is not earned, it is freely given. 

 

Luke 2:11 (NIV)

“Today…a Savior has been born for you”

 

John 3:16 (NIV)

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

 

 

3.     You are never alone. 

 

Matthew 1:23 (NIV)

"The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" (which means "God with us).

 

 

 

4.     You have a lifelong invitation to come closer to God. 

 

Luke 2:12 (NIV)

“This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

 

Hebrews 10:19-22 (ESV)

“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
