Against The Grain // The War of Worldviews

1 Peter 2:9 (ESV)

“you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

What is a Worldview?

“Network of presuppositions through which one interprets all of the human experience.”

- Jeffery Ventrella

What is real?

Where did we come from?

Is there a difference between right and wrong?

How do we know?

What do we know?

How should we act?

“In every decision we make we are not just deciding what we want to do. We are expressing our view of the purpose of human life.”

- Nancy Pearcey

2 Timothy 3:14-17 (NIV)

“continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

How do we keep our worldview biblical?

1.    Stand in awe of His word.

2.    Kneel in submission to His word.

3.    Walk in the illumination of His word.

Psalm 119:105 (ESV)

“Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”
