The third commandment is designed to protect the divine name from being used in any way that brings God or God’s purposes for the world into disrepute. Names embody who we are.
When we are controlled by envy or greed, we have feelings of anger/resentment, we will try to tear others down to make ourselves feel better, and we will compromise our integrity to gain that which our cravings desire.
