It is so easy for preachers to lose focus on what God has called them to do. It is also easy for churches to be enamored with gifted preachers. What are God’s objectives for the preacher whose desire it is to glorify God in his ministry? Paul tells us that the God-glorifying preacher exalts Christ, not self; trusts God, not talents; and seeks the Spirit, not the applause. This is what God calls the preacher to do and what the church needs to ensure their pastor does. And when that is true in a church, God is getting the glory He alone deserves for saving sinners and sanctifying His people.
