Finding Joy

A Study in Philippians on Finding True and Lasting Joy

The Secret to Contentment

Philippians 4:10-13 • November 17, 2019 • Brian Watts

We wrap up our Finding Joy series by looking at one of the most quoted scriptures, Philippians 4:13. We see that Paul finds contentment in any situation, good or bad. He shows us that not only is contentment possible, but there is a way to find it.

Home is Coming

Philippians 3:17-4:9 • November 10, 2019 • Brian Watts

We enter chapter 4 of Philippians in week 8 of our Finding Joy series. Paul talks about our ultimate heavenly citizenship and how it differs from being a citizen of earth. Because of our heavenly citizenship that is to come, it should cause us to be of one mind, rejoicing in all circumstances, and not worried about anything.

The Right Foundation

Philippians 3:1-14 • November 3, 2019 • Brent Trautman

As we continue our Finding Joy series, we turn to chapter 3. In the beginning of this chapter, Paul addresses some misconceptions amongst the church at Philippi. He reminds them of the truth they know and encourages them to remember this foundational truth as they look to find ultimate joy and advance the gospel.

The Importance of a Great Example

Philippians 2:19-30 • October 27, 2019 • Brian Watts

In week 6 of our Finding Joy series, we finish chapter 2. Here, we see Paul commend two people that have been vital to the early ministry, Timothy and Epaphroditus. After encouraging the church to advance the gospel, be authentic, and be others focused, he put these two before them as examples to follow. This leads us to ask what examples are we following in life and what kind of examples are we being for others around us.

A Long Obedience

Philippians 2:12-18 • October 20, 2019 • Brian Watts

This week, we continue chapter 2 and see Paul build on the beginning of the chapter we studied last week. Paul calls the church at Philippi to continue to obey. He calls them to work diligently to obey the gospel in each facet of their lives. It causes us to ask if there is consistent obedience to the gospel in each area of our lives.

An Upside Down Life

Philippians 2:1-11 • October 13, 2019 • Brian Watts

We enter chapter 2 of Philippians as we continue our Finding Joy series. In this passage, Paul tells the church to be counter to the world by living a life marked with humility. We take time to look at both the call to humility as well as the greatest example of humility that Paul gives in these 11 verses.

A Life Worthy of the Gospel

Philippians 1:27-30 • October 6, 2019 • Brian Watts

In week 3, we finish chapter 1 of Philippians in our Finding Joy series. In this part of the chapter, we see Paul caring about one things above all else... that the church was living a life worthy of the gospel. We use this section to see what it means to live our lives this way and how to do it. It leads us to ask the question, are we living a life worthy of the gospel?

Single-Mindedness

Philippians 1:12-26 • September 29, 2019 • Brian Watts

As we continue our series in the book of Philippians, we look towards the middle of chapter 1. Here, we see Paul's extreme focus on the advancement of the gospel above all else. Furthermore, Paul did not complain about his circumstances but rather kept a single-mindedness on furthering the good news in any circumstance that he found himself in. It causes us to ask the question, how do we need to be more single-minded?

Filled with Joy

Philippians 1:1-11 • September 22, 2019 • Brian Watts

We begin our new series in the book of Philippians by looking at the introduction of the letter in chapter 1. Here, we see Paul being filled with joy by the church at Philippi. As we read this chapter, we see more specifically that the joy Paul spoke of came from the church's partnership in the advancement of gospel. It leads us to ask who are we partnering with to further the gospel in our area and around the world.
