Are You Ready for Gifts?

September 6, 2020 • Jason Carson

TOGETHER GROUP QUESTIONS

Read Ephesians 4:1-12… see how it all comes together? What is God’s Word saying to you in this passage? What is God’s heart for His people?

Read the 3 additional passages in the New Testament that describe spiritual gifts (Romans 12:3-8, 1 Cor. 12:4-31, and 1 Peter 4:10-11). In all 4 passages, it emphasizes that every believer has at least one spiritual gift according to God’s grace. How can a disciple of Jesus discover the gifts they’ve been given? Which gifts do you believe you have?

Why should a Christian’s purpose in life be connected to the local church? Describe God’s will in this.

How would Encounter Church be different if EVERY person of the Body viewed themselves as a servant with a ministry to fulfill?

Describe how we can specifically submit ourselves daily to God’s Sovereign rule.

In what ways can we be more committed to the local church?

What is one way you can use your gifts and life to bless God and other people?

TOGETHER GROUP QUESTIONS As a review of the whole passage, read Ephesians 6:10-17. What is God’s Word saying to you in this passage? What have you learned? What sticks out? What has helped you? Discuss the sword of the Spirit. Why is this such a critical piece in the armor of God? What does it do for you? What does it protect you from? How is it an offensive weapon? Name one situation/ trial you are going through currently in life right now, and discuss HOW you can apply the Word of God to that situation (Ps. 119:105). Have the group share specific Bible verses that can be applied to each person’s circumstances. Read Matthew 4:1-11. Break down the 3 temptations Jesus faced, and how they are similar to things we face on a daily basis. Discuss how Jesus responded to each temptation. How is the Sword of the Spirit (God’s Word) useful to you? (There’s dozens and dozens of answers- have each person in the group share at least one!) As we have gone through each of the 6 pieces in the armor of God (belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the Gospel of peace, helmet of salvation, shield of faith, and sword of the Spirit)… have each group member pick one of those items that they would like prayer for in this upcoming season.
