John 16:7-11

I. JESUS PROMISES THE HOLY SPIRIT TO COMFORT HIS PEOPLE (v. 7a)

John 16:7a “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth:”

II. JESUS PROMISES IT IS BETTER TO HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT WITHIN YOU, THAN TO HAVE CHRIST IN THE FLESH BESIDE YOU (v. 7b)

John 16:7b “it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.”

III. JESUS PROMISES THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL CONVICT THE WORLD CONCERNING SIN, RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND JUDGEMENT (v. 8)

John 16:8 “And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:”

I) Why does the Holy Spirit convict the world concerning sin? (v. 9)

John 16:9 “concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;”

II) Why does the Holy Spirit convict the world concerning righteousness? (v. 10)

John 16:10 “concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer;”


III) Why does the Holy Spirit convict the world concerning judgement? (v. 11)

John 16:11 “concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”
