CHURCH DISCIPLINE: Matthew 18:15-20

I. THE DUTY TO DISCIPLINE A WAYWARD BROTHER (vv. 15-17)

I) If your brother sins against you, go and correct him privately.

II) If he does not listen, take one or two others and go.

III) If he does not listen, rally the church to go.

IV) If he does not listen, regard him the way the Jews regarded Gentiles and tax collectors.

II. MOTIVATIONS UNTO THIS DUTY (vv. 18-20)

I) The local Church, visible in this world, has been granted authority to exercise God's discipline.

II) The local Church, standing in agreement, has the promise of God that their decision accords with His.

III) The local Church, gathered in Jesus' name, has the privilege of having Jesus Christ Himself among them.
