PROVIDING AND PROTECTING LIKE MEN: Genesis 2:15

DOCTRINE: The Lord God owns you and has deposited you in this world, men, to provide and protect.

I. THE LORD GOD OWNS YOU, MEN, AND HE DECIDES WHAT YOUR DOMESTIC DUTIES ARE (Genesis 2:15a)

II. THE LORD GOD HAS DEPOSITED YOU IN THIS WORLD, MEN, AND HE HAS GIVEN YOU SPECIFIC DOMESTIC DUTIES (Genesis 2:15b)

III. THE LORD GOD HAS DEPOSITED YOU IN THIS WORLD TO PROVIDE (Genesis 2:15c)

I) The Lord God has deposited you in this world to physically provide for your family (1 Timothy 5:8).

(I) Men must physically provide for their family by working hard in their vocation and therefore earning money (Colossians 3:23; Proverbs 10:4-5). (II) Men must physically provide for their family through financial planning by budgeting (Proverbs 21:5). (III) Men must physically provide for their family through financial planning by avoiding the slavery of debt (Proverbs 22:7). (IV) Men must physically provide for their family through financial planning by saving (Proverbs 13:11). (V) Men must physically provide for their family through financial planning by investing (Proverbs 13:22; Matthew 26:26-30).

II) The Lord God has deposited you in this world to spiritually provide for your family (Ephesians 5:25-27; Ephesians 6:4; Deuteronomy 6:4-7; Proverbs 22:6).

(I) Husbands must spiritually provide for their wives (Ephesians 5:25-27). (II) Fathers must spiritually provide for their children (Ephesians 6:4; Deuteronomy 6:4-7; Proverbs 22:6).

IV. THE LORD GOD HAS DEPOSITED YOU IN THIS WORLD TO PROTECT (Genesis 2:15d)

I) The Lord God has deposited you in this world to physically protect your family (Genesis 2:15d).

(I) Men must physically protect their family through keeping watch over them (1 Corinthians 16:13a). (II) Men must physically protect their family through being able-bodied, so as to defend them when necessary (1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27). (III) Men must physically protect their family through arming themselves (Psalm 45:3; Luke 22:36).

II) The Lord God has deposited you in this world to spiritually protect your family (Genesis 2:15d).

(I) Men must spiritually protect their family by inoculating them with the truth through daily family worship (Joshua 24:14-15). (II) Men must spiritually protect their family through keeping watch over their souls (1 Corinthians 16:13). (III) Men must spiritually protect their family by warning them of false teachers (1 John 4:1). (IV) Men must spiritually protect their family by warning them of Satan’s devices, and giving them precious remedies against them (2 Corinthians 2:11). (V) Men must spiritually protect their family by making sure they are in a solid church that preaches the Law and the Gospel to the glory of God (Ephesians 4:11-14).
