THE HOLY SPIRIT AS EMPOWERER: Acts 1:6-11 - Shepherd School

Acts 1:6-11

May 10, 2021 • Brett Baggett

BIG IDEA: God the Father and God the Son send to believers God the Holy Spirit in order to empower them for gospel ministry. Apart from the power that the Holy Spirit provides, you and I can do nothing of eternal significance.

I. You need the Holy Spirit to empower you for gospel ministry or you will fail (v.8a)

II. You need the Holy Spirit to empower you for gospel ministry, not for figuring out God's secret will (vv. 6-7)

III. You need the Holy Spirit to empower you for gospel ministry, so that you may be a faithful witness (v. 8b)

IV. You need the Holy Spirit to empower you for gospel ministry, so that you may take part in taking the gospel to the ends of the earth (v. 8c)

V. You need the Holy Spirit to empower you for gospel ministry, remembering that the Lord Jesus will return to judge and save (v. 9-11)

I) The Lord Jesus will return to judge those who are not reconciled to God through Him.
Acts 17:31 “[God] has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”

II) Jesus Christ will return to save those who eagerly wait for Him.
Hebrews 9:28 “Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”
