Steadfastness

Didn't See That Coming • November 12, 2017 • Allen Jackson

Some have said that it is easier to trust in God when times are good. Some have said they feel God more intensely in bad times. David modeled a steadfastness in his relationship with God both in prosperity and in challenge.

Obedience

Didn't See That Coming • October 29, 2017 • Allen Jackson

A more difficult part of discipleship is obedience. Selective obedience is disobedience and disobedience is multiplied when we make excuses. If we aren’t careful, we begin to believe the narrative we construct around ourselves; then we lose perspective about truth and lies and we erode our relationship with God and with others.

Affection

Didn't See That Coming • October 22, 2017 • Allen Jackson

Who do you love? Is your love for God enough to wait on His timing and on His strategy? Too often, Saul was more in love with himself than with God. Spiritual character is revealed under pressure. Our affection is seen in our absolute trust. Affection indicates priority, where love indicates emotion. Affection is the devotion we have to someone that makes us change our plans, seek out the object of our affection, and maybe even say no to some things in order to say yes to other things.

Repentance

Didn't See That Coming • October 15, 2017 • Allen Jackson

Repentance is a “no conditions” conversation with God where we realize that something that we value – an activity, a lifestyle choice, a pursuit – is in the way of our ability to love God. Whether beginning a relationship with Jesus or recalibrating our spiritual journey, repentance is turning away from something destructive that we value and turning towards God and His plan for our lives.

Even as a young boy, Samuel understood that he would hear from God if he listened. God speaks today through the Bible, through the Church, through circumstances and through miraculous intervention.
