HAVE A LISTENING EAR

July 17, 2024 • Dr Zubeda Sing, Pastor Zubeda Sing

Ye know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. James 1v19

We have two ears and one mouth, yet our mouth gets us into more trouble than anything else. Practice the art of listening. Ask the Holy Spirit to develop your listening skills so that you can become better at listening. I mean not just hearing something casually but listening intently when someone speaks. When we listen we absorb what is being said and we formulate an opinion or it helps us make a proper decision as we have given careful attention to what is being said. Most times when someone is speaking we are thinking ahead to what we will say, so we do not really hear what the person is saying. We lose out so much when we do this. Also the person who is talking to us feels we do not care because we were not really listening to what they were saying. This is why the Spirit of God through the word says, listen to what the Spirit of God is saying.

When you develop an ear to listen, you also get to really hear God in his still small voice and this is a start to a journey of wonderful fellowship with the Holy Spirit. It helps and keeps us relentless in our God given calling.

CONFESSION/PRAYER

Abba Father I dedicate my ears to you, so you may teach me by the Holy Spirit to cultivate a habit of listening carefully when you speak and also when I am engaged in a conversation with others. A trained listening ear that also receives faith to live successfully.
