Hospitality

January 7, 2024 • Justin Kim • Luke 19:1–10

Listen in as we explore the rich tapestry of biblical hospitality through the transformative encounter between Zacchaeus and Jesus. In our discussion, we unpack the significance of Zacchaeus's radical actions to see Jesus and how this moment of hospitality led to his profound repentance and generosity. We're reminded that hospitality in the biblical sense challenges social norms and serves as a spiritual discipline that reflects Jesus's love and acceptance. This narrative isn't just a story; it's a call for us to open our lives in a way that can lead to personal and communal salvation. Pastor Justin shares from the heart about the difficulty of welcoming the 'other' into our homes and lives, especially when faced with cultural, socioeconomic, or political differences. We discuss the barriers that can prevent us from practicing this sacred art, from the busyness of lif--to social anxieties. Yet, by looking at Jesus's example, we're encouraged to see our spaces not just as personal domains, but as arenas for ministry and expressions of the Gospel. It's in this act of opening our doors to the stranger that we truly begin to transform them into friends and, ultimately, family in God's kingdom. Finally, we reflect on the ultimate act of hospitality—the sacrifice of Christ—which invites us into the eternal family of God. Drawing from Ephesians 2, we delve into the transition from being strangers to becoming part of God's household and how this shapes our understanding of gospel hospitality. As we discuss, the anticipation of a heavenly banquet gives us a glimpse into the security and hope we have in Christ. This sermon is a heartfelt reminder that our acts of hospitality have the power to echo the inclusive, redeeming love of Jesus and can start others on a new journey of faith and companionship with Him. Join us as we consider how living out the spiritual discipline of hospitality is a transformative practice that has the power to shape our everyday lives. ---------- Biblical Hospitality, Zacchaeus, Jesus, Transformation, Faith Community, Comfort Zones, Strangers, Acts of Welcome, Generosity, Heavenly Banquet, Gospel Hospitality, Christian Hospitality, Biblical Teachings, Radical Grace, Gospel Conversations, Eternal Life, Salvation, God's Love, Sacrifice, God's Household, Outsiders, Seekers, Journey of Faith, Hospitality, Spiritual Practice, Spiritual Discipline, Doxa, Church, Eastside, Redmond, Seattle
