James Tour Explains The Power of the Resurrection
January 2, 2024 • Bailey Mullens, James Tour, Michael Weidman
In this video, Christian ministers Michael and Bailey analyze and discuss a talk by Dr. James Tour of Rice University about why he focuses on Jesus' resurrection when sharing his faith. They highlight Tour's perspective that belief in the resurrection is fundamental to salvation and that God has made the truth of it accessible. The ministers share stories of how Tour and others have seen many people come to faith just by focusing on the compelling evidence for Jesus' resurrection. They emphasize that while facts are important, the bigger factor is the Holy Spirit convincing people internally. Their prayer expresses a desire to trust the Spirit to prepare people's hearts to respond to the message of Christ.
Did God Harden Pharaoh’s Heart?
December 19, 2023 • Bailey Mullens, Michael Weidman
This video examines the biblical story of God hardening Pharaoh's heart and not allowing the Israelites to leave Egypt, questioning God's fairness and goodness. It analyzes the original Hebrew terms translated as "hardened" and notes they have nuances around being harsh, heavy, dull or strengthened. The hosts suggest God did not override Pharaoh's free will but allowed him to make stubborn choices while strengthening his resolve, using his disobedience over time to display miracles and glory, though God would have preferred obedience. This highlights God's patience in enduring those who oppose him to achieve greater purposes, magnifying his power and goodness.
This Will Change Your Prayer Life
December 5, 2023 • Bailey Mullens, Michael Weidman
In this video, Michael and Bailey discuss the two words Jesus used to open his teaching on prayer - "Our Father." They explain that if you can understand what Jesus really meant when he used this term, it will transform your prayer life. Key points in the video: To call God "Father" means recognizing his authority as well as his love and care for us as his children. Many people have imperfect ideas of fatherhood that affect their view of God. Jesus taught we should pray humbly, honestly, with a clean heart, according to God's will, and courageously. This all relates to properly understanding who God is as our Father. Scriptures emphasize how much God loves us and wants to generously give to us as our Heavenly Father. Jesus said "Ask and you shall receive" - we need to believe this is true. They discuss practical tips for improving your prayer life like praying scripture, journaling prayers, having an attitude of thanksgiving, and getting on your knees. Check your own prayers - do they reflect a right understanding of God's fatherhood?
What Are Principalities According To The Bible?
November 13, 2023 • Bailey Mullens, Michael Weidman • Daniel 10, Luke 12:11, Ephesians 6:12, Colossians 1:16, Colossians 2:10
Many Christians have heard the terms "principalities and powers" used in church contexts, especially charismatic circles. But what do these mysterious-sounding words actually refer to in Scripture? In this eye-opening video, we dive into a word study of "principalities" to understand the biblical meaning. We discover that the Greek word arche (translated "principality") refers to governing systems, both earthly and heavenly. Jesus and Paul use the word to refer to physical authorities like courts and magistrates, as well as spiritual hierarchies. So principalities include political, economic, social, and religious systems. The spiritual forces of evil work through human systems to spread anti-God ideas and identities. As Christians, we're called to reject these false identities and stand firm in who God says we are in Christ. Overall, grasping the full meaning of principalities gives us a practical way to understand spiritual warfare and walk in kingdom identity. This video unpacks the biblical perspective on being saved from the world’s systems and belonging to Jesus’ kingdom.
Should Christians Smoke Weed?
November 7, 2023
In this video, hosts Michael and Bailey have an in-depth discussion on whether Christians should smoke marijuana. They dig into what the Bible says about drug use and getting high. Looking at Galatians 5, Michael points out the Greek word "pharmakeia" which refers to using drugs for spiritual purposes. He notes this is listed as a "work of the flesh" that can keep people from God's kingdom. Bailey shares his personal experience with weed, and how it diminished his spiritual joy from worship after becoming a Christian. The hosts talk about how alcohol can be used in moderation, while marijuana is inherently psychoactive. Weed provides a cheap counterfeit of the peace and spiritual connection God wants us to have through the Holy Spirit. They also discuss the mentions of drug use in Revelation, where it's tied to end times deception. Michael notes how drug taking will increase as society moves closer to the end times. Overall, Michael and Bailey conclude that smoking weed is prohibited for Christians under biblical prohibitions against pharmakeia. It opens your mind to demonic spiritual influence. God intends for Christians to experience revelation and joy through relationship with Him, not through artificial means like getting high. Christians should pursue spiritual experiences through prayer, worship, and embracing the Holy Spirit. This is God's path to finding true peace and abundant life.
What is my Spiritual Gift?
October 17, 2023 • Bailey Mullens, Michael Weidman
There are actually three main categories of spiritual gifts mentioned in the Bible - gifts from the Holy Spirit, gifts of service/ministry from Jesus, and gifts of personality/operation from God the Father. In this video, we explain each category and the various spiritual gifts like prophecy, teaching, mercy, giving, leadership, and more. Understanding your own spiritual gifts is so important, but even more important is appreciating the spiritual gifts of others. When we can recognize our differences and how we each fit into the body of Christ, we can work together in humility as God intended. Though we each have different gifts, they are all from God and are valuable for building up the church. We may not understand someone else's gift, but that means we need them all the more. The goal is to dwell with each other in love and humility, learning from every part of the body that God has assembled. Join us as we break down these spiritual gift categories and how you can begin identifying your own gifts as well as the gifts of others. Our differences are divine gifts from God that allow us to accomplish more together than we ever could on our own!
