This lesson represents a changing of the guard. Zacharia's son, Yochanan, was born into the tribe of Levi and destined to serve in the Temple to act as an intermediary priest. Good had something different in mind. Joseph received an angelic revelation that the son Mary was carrying would save His people from their sins. Joseph's step-son would be the intermediary sacrifice and priest.
