You Cook Fish

Hello. One of my interpreter friends is actively involved with Deaf community, all of their events and activities. He was so involved to the point where he started to pick up on their habits and slangs in ASL. During spring break, he went back to his home. All of his family is hearing and doesn’t sign. One night, when his mom was cooking dinner. My friend asked her “You cook fish?” His mom became puzzled and said “Since when did you start eating fishes?” My friend replied “Ohh oops I meant finish not fish, that’s how Deaf tend to say it” then he went on to explain about Deaf culture to his mom.
