Contending for the Faith

Jude 3-4

God is writing this letter, through Jude, to warn against the false teaching that had crept into the church and remind believers to stand firm in the faith; to stand firm in the Gospel and the authority of Jesus Christ. Last week, we looked at verses 1-2 and unpacked our identity as Christians as one of being called, beloved, and kept. Rooted in that identity, in verses 3-4, we'll see that Jude's call for us to contend for our faith is as relevant today as it was when it was originally written.

Today marks the final sermon in our series through Jude. The message from Jude to the church has been clear, “Contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.” How will Jude conclude his letter and confirm his message of contention? Under the inspiration of the Spirit, he chooses worship, rather than a repeated command, and gives the church one of the most beautiful doxologies in all of Scripture.

Keeping Yourselves in the Love of God

Today is week four of our five-week series in the letter of Jude. God is writing this letter, through Jude, to warn against the false teaching that had crept into the church and remind believers to stand firm in the faith; to stand firm in the Gospel and the authority of Jesus Christ. Jude roots us in our identity as those who are beloved by the trinitarian God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and issues an urgent call for us in Christ to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. Today, in verses 17-23, Jude expands on how we are to contend for the faith, by keeping ourselves in the love of God.

Today is week three of our five-week series in the letter of Jude. God is writing this letter, through Jude, to warn against the false teaching that had crept into the church and remind believers to stand firm in the faith; to stand firm in the Gospel and the authority of Jesus Christ. Previously, we looked at verses 1-4 and unpacked our identity as Christians as one of being called, beloved, and kept, and Jude’s call for us to contend for our faith. Today, verses 5-16 take a deeper look at the telltale marks and sure judgment for false teachers. It is a sober call to the church to be faithful to the one, true Gospel.
