Jesus teaches in this parable that the kingdom of heaven is a gift, but it will cost you everything you have. It is so valuable that it is worth giving up anything to get it.
Jesus surprises his audience by the substance of the kingdom of God, the means by which it comes and the breadth of its influence.
Jesus artfully teaches his audience that the kingdom of heaven is where God's generous grace is extended to and experienced by the undeserving.
