A Purposeful Rest

May 19, 2024 • Steve Hinton • 1 Peter 4:11, Romans 12:2, Ephesians 6:19, Jeremiah 29:13, Genesis 2:2

Jeremiah 29:13   Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”   The Lord Commands us to Rest and in that We Will Find His Best.   1. The Principles of a Biblical Sabbatical.   Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.   Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.   Mark 2:27 And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.   1 Kings 19:15-18 And the Lord said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus. And when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael to be king over Syria. 16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place. 17 And the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha put to death. 18 Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”   2. My Personal Need for a Biblical Sabbatical.    -1 Peter 4:11a  “If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.”   -James 3:1  “Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.”     3. My Plan for a Biblical Sabbatical.   Rom 12:2  “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you can test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”   4. Your Participation in a Biblical Sabbatical.                           Ephesians 6:19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.   Ephesians 4:11-13 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.   -Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Motherhood - The Regal - The Risk, and The Reward

Exodus 2:1-10 Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, 2 and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. 3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. 4 His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him. 5 Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. 6 She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said. 7 Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” 8 “Yes, go,” she answered. So the girl went and got the baby’s mother. 9 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him. 10 When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, “I drew him out of the water.”   Proverbs 31:16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.   Hebrews 11:23 By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.   Luke 1:38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.   Acts 7:22 Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.   Hebrews 11:24-27 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.   Titus 2:3-4 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children.   Proverbs 31:28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.   1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

What Everyone Needs in 2024 - The Church Deployed

Matthew 16:18b “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.    Everyone Needs a Savior and the Church is God’s Design for Sharing the Savior with the World. Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”   Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.   1 Timothy 2:4 Who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.   Ephesians 4:11-12 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. (NIV)   2 Corinthians 5:20a We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. (NIV)    Acts 9:39 So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them.   “He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot keep” Jim Elliot.
