For most of us, hearing the words “be patient” doesn’t sit well. We want certain things and we want them almost immediately. James tells those who are enduring hardship to wait patiently on the return of Christ. However, as we wait on God we are called to earnestly serve His Kingdom and not allow persecution to cause us to argue and fight with each other.

There are many ways we could describe the early church, but one clear characteristic of these new believers is DEVOTED! Acts 2:42 tells us that they had their heart set on the teaching of God’s Word, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. This isn’t meant to be unique to them alone. These four disciplines are for every follower of Christ. They helped the early church grow in spiritual maturity and they help us mature our faith as well.
The Clear Gospel

When the Spirit of God came upon the disciples and tongues of fire broke out throughout Jerusalem, it left the city amazed by God’s power, but still confused about what took place. But, the Apostle Peter cleared the confusion by preaching the clear Gospel. The Good News of Jesus may be difficult to embrace for some, but it’s not difficult to understand. When they heard the clear Gospel, they were “cut to the heart” and the Church exponentially grew like it had never experienced before.
Arrival of the Holy Spirit

There are certain stories in the Bible that we would have loved to witness firsthand. The arrival of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 is certainly one of those moments. Not only was it amazing, but it was a fulfillment of prophecy for the Church. Unlike the birth of Jesus, this moment wasn’t quiet and peaceful. It drew great attention from everyone in Jerusalem. They truly witnessed a miracle of the power of God as He made clear the truth of the Gospel.
