- Our fasting must not be dramatic in order to draw attention to ourselves.

- Our fasting must be done privately in order to accomplish a spiritual purpose.

- Intellectual knowledge alone does not bring eternal life. - A surrendered life points to Jesus. - The authority of Jesus demands a response.

- Lip service alone does not bring eternal life. - Remarkable works alone do not bring eternal life.

- False teachers exist and desire to harm the church. - Engaged followers of Jesus must recognize and confront false teachers.
