God’s purpose for humankind is not destruction but recreation (Is 6:17; 66:22; Rev 21,22). He will purify the heavens and earth and will then create them anew. We can joyously look forward to the restoration of God’s good world. We should not become lazy and complacent because Christ has not yet returned. Instead, our lives should express our eager expectation of his coming. What would you like to be doing when Christ returns? Is that the way you are living each day?

By becoming human, Christ became 1)the perfect teacher—in Jesus’ life we see how God thinks and therefore how we should think (Phil 2:5-11); 2)the perfect example—he is a model of what we are to become, and he shows us how to live and gives the power to live that way (I Peter 2:21-23); 3)the perfect sacrifice---Jesus came as a sacrifice for all sins, and his death satisfied God’s requirements for the obliteration of sin (Col 1:15-23).

(reflection) Who is this child? Who is this Wonderful Counselor? He is a son of man who has walked in our shoes, felt our pains and struggled with our temptations. Moreover, He walks with us now, every step of the way. How could we not love Him? O Light of the World, prophesied deliverer of Israel. You have truly come. You are my deliverer and the light of my world as well. With joy I acknowledge your right to every righteous and holy title and to every place of authority. Come, Lord Jesus, Messiah, and rule over us with justice and peace. Do it even now in me. I welcome you gratefully to the throne of my life.
