Molly Smerko, pastoral resident of education invites us to Uptown Bible Study which takes place every Tuesday in the Welcome Center, as well as on Zoom. The bible study is a great way to recharge, refresh and join in fellowship. This year they are studying the Psalms and Molly shares a little snippet of psalm 33 that they studied last week. She loves how it shows the infinite care that God gave when creating the world and us. In reading the last line of the psalm, Molly's prayer for you is that you continue to hope in the Lord even when times are tough.

Weekly One Take - Bob Henderson 1/12

Bob invites you to join him tonight in-person or on Zoom to start the program, The Gospels Distilled. He and Grace will be getting to the core teaching of the Gospel of Mark these next four weeks. The hope is that it will give you a renewed and refreshed sense of Jesus' teaching. We'd love to see you join us.

Grace invites you to participate in reading the gospels with us in the next year. Kick off the new year by committing to read the gospels in a year. What did Jesus say? What did Jesus do? We’ll tackle the essence of Jesus’ teaching and ministry by diving into each of the four gospels throughout the year. Join along with a guided reading plan sent to your email during the months of study and dive into a discussion with new and old friends on Wednesday nights beginning January 12th at 6:30 pm as Bob and Grace guide us through major themes in the four gospels. We will meet in Fellowship Hall, Room 207, and on Zoom.

The German Theologian Meister Eckert once said, "If the only prayer you ever say is thank you, that is enough." This Thanksgiving week, we ask you to take a moment each day to pause and say thank you to the God who has given us so much.

This week, Nikki Zimmermann, Pastoral Resident for Mission & Outreach, shares with us her daily practice of gratitude journaling. After listening to Dr. Shawn Achor, author of "The Happiness Advantage," in a Ted Talk, who focused on the positive things in life, Nikki started to journal 5 things a day she was grateful for. As Nikki continued her journaling, she noticed how it helps her consistently look for the good in life. She hopes that you can try it yourself and find it as meaningful as she does.

A few weeks ago, she shared a quote with us from Brene Brown, "People are hard to hate close up. Move in." In this week's One Takes series, pastoral resident, Molly Smerko shares Psalm 42. She talks about her love of the psalms of lament because of how real the expressions of emotions are. She sees how it relates to our lives of faith today. Even through times of sorrow, we can still praise God. She speaks of hope in God, that in our times of grief and loss, God is always with us, helping us on our journey.
