Todays Psalm is one of only seven of its kind in the Psalms. It’s known as a penitential psalm. That is, it’s a Psalm of confession and humility before God. The Psalmist expresses sorrow over sin, or spiritual failures, and recognizes his need for God’s favor and forgiveness.

It’s divided into three sections, like nested circles, with each circle drawing out why God deserves to be worshipped: why He’s worthy of praise.
