It is easy to seek out satisfaction, fulfillment, and happiness in the things of this world. But in the end, they will leave us unsatisfied. This four-week series looks at counterfeits we seek instead of Christ and how Christ satisfies our true desires.

True Joy is not Found in our Wealth

We look at the story of the Rich young ruler in Mark 10. We see that Jesus was teaching about salvation requires sacrifice. For the rich it is harder to make those sacrifices because they have much to give up, but we all have stuff. What is it that is becoming the barrier between you and God? That is the thing that needs to be sacrificed.

True Joy is not Found in our Careers

When we have a job, it is a good thing. When your job becomes your identity you are the ones that make excuses when the servant comes to tell you the banquet is ready.

True Joy is not Found in Family and Traditions

We look at this thing called 'family'. For the believer this is redefined from the way the world understands it. Family is defined by Jesus as those that hear the word of God and do what it says (Lk 8:19-21). So when we become a disciple of Christ we have to count the cost and be willing to rid ourselves of everything, including our families, in order to follow him.

True Joy is Found in God Alone

We pursue a lot of things that hope to give us Joy, but the only place to find Joy is in God alone. When we know the true Joy we are able to spot the counterfeits right away. The Counterfeits lead to disappointment so seek out and find your true joy in God and God alone.
