How to RECOGNIZE demons? They:
1. Entice – persuade to do evil
2. Harass – observe/detect weaknesses and then slip in
3. Torture – physical, mental, inner accusation
4. Compel – compulsive negative behaviors (i.e. gluttony), excessive talking, gossip, criticism
5. Enslave – Forgiven but not free
6. Cause addictions –Anything we are brought under that does not help
7. Defile - Speech
8. Deceive – some will depart from the faith giving heed to the demon of deception. Anything that sets aside the great truths of Scripture, distorting who Jesus is.
9. Attack the physical body – can attack the physical body, tiredness (hiding other demons), unnatural sleepiness (deterring from growing closer to God), restlessness
STEPS for DELIVERANCE
1. Personally affirm you faith in Christ (Hebrews 3:1) Jesus is the “High Priest of our confession”
2. Humble yourself (1 Peter 5:5-6) “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble”
3. Confess any known sin (1 John 1:9) “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse
us from all unrighteousness”
4. Repent of all sins (Proverbs 28:13) “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them
will have mercy.”
5. Forgive all other people (Mark 11:25-26) “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone,
forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will
your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
6. Break with the occult and all false religion (Deuteronomy 7:26) “Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house,
lest you be doomed to destruction like it…”
7. Prepare to be released from every curse over your life (Genesis 24:1; Galatians 3:13–14) the sacrifice of Jesus on the
cross by which He took on Himself every curse due to us, that in return we might inherit the blessings of Abraham,
who was blessed by God in all things
8. Take your stand with God (Romans 8:31) “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Decide and speak out, “I submit
my will, my purpose, my future, my whole life to God. I take my stand with God against all sin, all evil and every kind
of demon.” (James 4:7) “Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
9. Expel (Mark 16:17) “for Jesus said, ‘In My name they will cast out demons.’” (Luke 10:19) “I give you the authority to
trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
“Spirit” in both Hebrew and Greek is also the word for breath, get rid of by expelling out.
PRAYER for DELIVERANCE
You may want the support of a fellow Christian. But be sure he/she is in agreement with your decision and is praying out of faith, not unbelief. If there are two of you, claim the promise of Jesus in Matthew 18:19: “If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”
Do not feel bound to stick rigidly to this pattern of prayer. If the Holy Spirit prompts you to add words from your heart, do not hesitate to do so. And don’t hurry. Go through the whole prayer slowly and deliberately.
1. Personally affirm your faith in “Lord Jesus Christ, I believe You are the Son of God and the only way to God—that
You died on the cross for my sins and rose again so that I might be forgiven and receive eternal life.”
2. Humble - “I renounce all pride and religious self-righteousness and any dignity that does not come from You. I have
no claim on Your mercy except that You died in my place.”
3. Confess any known sin - “I confess all my sins before You and hold nothing back. Especially I confess.…”
4. Repent of all sin- “I repent of all my sins. I turn away from them and I turn to You, Lord, for mercy and forgiveness.”
5. Forgive all others - “By a decision of my will, I freely forgive all who have ever harmed or wronged me. I lay down all
bitterness, all resentment and all hatred. Specifically, I forgive.…”
6. Break with the occult and all false religion “I sever all contact I have ever had with the occult or with all false
religion—particularly.… “I commit myself to get rid of all objects associated with the occult or false religion.”
7. Prepare to be released from every curse over your life “Lord Jesus, I thank You that on the cross You were made a
curse, that I might be redeemed from every curse and inherit God’s blessing. On that basis I ask You to release me
and set me free to receive the deliverance I need.”
8. Take your stand with God - “I take my stand with You, Lord, against all Satan’s demons. I submit to You, Lord, and I
resist the devil. Amen!”
9. Speak directly to them - “Now I speak to any demons that have control over me. I command you to go from me
now. In the name of Jesus, I expel you!”
HOW to KEEP Your Deliverance
THANK GOD for your deliverance! Continue to thank God! Satan will not give up on you, be prepared for his counterattack. The warning of Jesus that a demon that has gone out of a man will seek to return. Make completely sure, therefore, that Jesus is dwelling in you and that He is absolute Lord of your life.
Once our enemy has been driven out, build protective walls. Here are the basic principles to help you build:
1. Live by God’s Word. (Matthew 4:4) Jesus said that mankind shall live “by every word that proceeds from the mouth
of God.”
2. Put on the garment of praise. (Isaiah 61:3) God offers us “the garment of praise” in place of “the spirit of heaviness.”
3. Come under discipline. (Matthew 28:19) “go… and make disciples…” a disciple is one who is under discipline. (2
Timothy 1:7) God has given us “a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline. (1 Peter 2:13) “Submit yourselves for
the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men.”
4. Cultivate right fellowship. (1 John 1:7) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 Corinthians 15:33) “Evil company corrupts good
habits” (Hebrews 10:24-25)
5. Be filled with the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18) Do not get drunk on wine... Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
6. Make sure you have passed through the water of baptism. (Mark 16:15–16) “Whoever believes and is baptized will
be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”
7. Put on the whole armor of God. (Ephesians 6:13-18):
• The girdle [belt] of truth. The breastplate of righteousness. The shoes of the preparation of the gospel of peace. The shield of faith. The helmet of salvation. The sword of the Spirit—the Word of God. All prayer
WHY Some Are NOT DELIVERED
Most of the people who have prayed the prayer outlined in chapter 22 have received deliverance from demons—but not all. Here are ten possible factors that might hinder a person from receiving deliverance:
1. Lack of repentance (Mark 1:15) - “Repent, and believe”
2. Lack of desperation (Matthew 14:30) - “Lord, save me!”
3. Wrong motives (James 4:3) - “You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your
pleasures”
4. Self-centeredness—a desire for attention (2 Timothy 3:7) “always learning and never able to come to the
knowledge of the truth.”
5. Failure to break with the occult (Exodus 23:24) “Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their
practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces”
6. Failure to sever binding soulish relationships (Matthew 10:36) “a man’s foes will be those of his own household”
7. Lack of release from a curse (Gal 3:13-14) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us,
for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to
Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
8. Failure to confess a specific sin (1 John 1:9) “If we confess our sins, [God] is faithful and just to forgive us…”
9. Not “separated” by water baptism (Mark 16:15–16) “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever
does not believe will be condemned.”
10. Part of a larger battle (Ephesians 6:12) “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against
the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
11. The kind of demon (Mark 9:29) “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”
