Fasting/Mourning/Hearing - In response to the question on why His disciples didn't fast like others, Jesus pointed out that there are things people don't do: Wedding guests don't fast, new cloth isn't used to patch an old garment, new wine isn't put into old wineskins, and new wine isn't preferred over old wine. Ritual fasting would give way to a new purpose for fasting, that is, to hear more clearly from God. It's about intimacy, not ritual.

Pride - This parable shines a light on how pride causes us to see ourselves as superior to others because of our relative moral behavior. But God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Pride magnifies the faults of others while minimizing our own. If we truly want to help others who struggle with sin, we need to be aware of our own sin and be willing to deal with it.

Prayer - This parable teaches us the kingdom principle of boldly asking the Lord for what we need to bless and minister to other people. Jesus encouraged his disciples to persevere in prayer when they don't immediately receive what they pray for. If an unrighteous judge would give justice to a persistent widow, how much more would our righteous heavenly Father.
