We find here this morning one of the clearest and most definitive statements that Jesus ever made to explain the reason He came down from heaven to our world. This is what Jesus had in mind when He made the voluntary commitment to become one of us. You can see it with me in Matthew 9:13 – “Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Jesus came for sinners not righteous. Matthew's primary point is to convince you that Jesus is exactly who He said He is – the Son of God and God’s Messiah King. The point is not that you would think highly of yourself but rather highly of Jesus. Join us as we begin our series in "The Astonishing Power of Jesus" by asking "Who is Jesus?"
