What is the Local Church?

What is the local church?

June 6, 2021 • Scott Mehl, José González • Acts 2:41–47

What does it mean to be a single multi-lingual church?  When we take the time to look back at the very first iteration of the local church we see a group of brothers and sisters that bear a striking resemblance to who we are today, and who God is continually calling us to become.

Application Questions

1. How are you tempted to neglect living out your faith as a part of a "gathered" community?

2. What are specific examples of times you have sacrificed for the needs of brothers and sisters in our church family?  If you can't think of any, how might God be calling you to a more intentionally generous lifestyle?

3. What can you do this summer to intentionally devote yourself to the Word of God along with others in our local church community?

4. Who around you needs the hope of the gospel right now?  What do you need to do to prioritize sharing that hope with them?

Where Will We Go?

February 25, 2024 • Matt Kleinhans, Ara Torosian • John 6:66–69

At the beginning of John 6, Jesus feeds almost 20,000 people miraculously. By the end of John 6, the only followers He has left are His disciples. Challenging His disciples, Jesus asks them if they will leave Him as well? Peter responds with a declaration of faith and desperation that is true for all Christians everywhere. Application Questions:  1. What does spiritual desperation look like in your life? 2. How can you live a life of dependence on the words of Jesus? 3. In what way can you build your life upon Christ's words of eternal life?

The Cost of Following Jesus

September 17, 2023 • José González • Luke 14:25–33

Following Jesus is not easy, because He asks us to subordinate everything that competes with our love for Him. Our problem begins when we think that we can only follow Him with our imperfect love. When Jesus invites us to follow him, it is an invitation to give up our selfish love to receive his perfect love and when we do so that is when we find true happiness and eternal life. Application Questions: 1. Why does Jesus want you to understand that to follow Him starts by loving Him the most? 2. How does the pursuit of your own happiness without Jesus can become an obstacle to follow him? 3. Why might not following Jesus be the greatest cost for an aspiring disciple?

What are some ways in which you look for rest?  2. How is Jesus' unexpected offer of rest actually good news?  3. How can you look to find your rest in Him this week?
