The 10th Commandment instructs us not to covet the things of this earth that another person possesses. However, in the New Testament we are encouraged to covet the things God desires for us. Knowing the difference can lead us from covetousness to contentment.

Psalm 58:3 says, “The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born speaking lies.” A survey revealed that 2 out of 3 Americans believe that there is nothing wrong with telling a lie. But God says “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” So if everyone lies, what's the big deal?

The first commandment warns us not to worship the wrong god, but the second commandment warns us not to worship the right God in the wrong way. The first deals with who we are to worship; whereas the second deals with how we are to worship. This commandment brings both a blessing if you keep it and a curse if you don’t. But there is so much more that this commandment teaches.
