Simeon’s song brings hope not only to the Jews but to all people, even us Gentiles. He puts us in a state of awe with his worshipful, Spirit-filled words. But our awe of the season of Christmas should never exceed our awe of the Christ of Christmas.

This Christmas, we’re looking at the Christmas story from the songs sung in the Gospel of Luke before, during, and after Jesus’ birth. As we look at the first song, we can’t help but see ourselves as Mary saw herself – unworthy of God’s mercies but a desire to make much of Jesus.
